Differentiated Teaching” – the Concept.
One of the greatest challenges facing schools today is learning how to meet the needs of diverse students in the classroom. Not all students are alike. Based on this knowledge, differentiated teaching applies a learner centric approach to the classroom. It requires teachers to be flexible and innovative in presenting the curriculum to students rather than expecting students to modify themselves to suit the curriculum.
Differentiated Teaching is “a way of thinking about the classroom”.
It is a philosophy based on a set of beliefs:
- Students who are of the same age differ in their readiness to learn, their interests, their styles of learning, their experiences and their life circumstances.
- The differences in students are significant enough to make a major impact on what students need to learn, the pace at which they need to learn it, and the support they need from teachers and others to learn it well.
The Differentiated Teaching Programme will help construct a
“New – Gen” Differentiated Classroom which:
- Accommodates student differences
- Demonstrates teacher skills in designing and delivering balanced lessons based on latest teaching – learning systems.
- Where the teacher is empowered with the mechanics and perspicacity to teach every student in every class.
