Academic
enhancement through Quality Management.
Brain-based Learning
The human mind is recognized as the universe
beyond complete discovery.95% of all that has
ever been known about the physiological workings
of the brain has been discovered in the last ten
years.
The theory of Neural Plasticity states that experiences
early in life shape the wiring (axon to dendrite
circuits) of the rapidly developing brain and
absence of certain experiences tends to allow
weakening or even disappearance of certain circuits
that are not developed through use. This means
that by continually stretching ourselves, over
time we can develop new skills and develop our
own personal intelligence mix.
Research on the human brain and emerging theories
on human intelligence and how learning happens
are redefining psycho-pedagogy. Some significant
emerging
concepts are:
Differentiated Teaching
Whole brain development
Brain-based teaching and evaluation
A new understanding of right brained children
Multiple intelligences
Brain
based learning has the nervous system and the
brain as the physical foundation of the human
learning process.
t
Some of the core principles of brain-based learning are:
The brain changes with
use, throughout our lifetime.
The brain is a self-organizing mechanism.
As we use the brain, we strengthen certain patterns
of connection, making each connection easier to
create next time.
When educators take neuroscience into account,
they organize a curriculum around real experiences
and integrated, "whole" ideas. Plus,
they focus on instruction that promotes complex
thinking and the "growth" of the brain
.The central belief of all brain based learning
experts is EACH BRAIN IS UNIQUE.
t
The three instructional techniques associated
with brain-based learning are:
Orchestrated immersion--Creating learning
environments that fully immerse students in an
educational experience.
Relaxed alertness--Trying to eliminate
fear in learners, while maintaining a highly challenging
environment.
Active processing--Allowing the learner
to consolidate and internalize information by
actively processing it.
Brain based
learning is a pathfinder in finding a solution
to how can we individualize and personalize classroom
learning.
Osmosys offers a number of products and
teacher development programmes that facilitate
brain based teaching and learning.
